In order to even start his social link, Iwai requires a Level 4 Guts, remember that 5 is max level, so you most likely won't be able to do his social link in your 1st playthrough unless you put an insane amount of focus into your Guts. So yeah, Iwai is pretty cool, and it's cool to see another father figure character alongside Sojiro and Yoshida, and I guess Maruki in royal.īut there's some problems in terms of a gameplay standpoint. When Joker was in juvenile detention and you maxed out his social link, Iwai uses his connections to keep Joker safe in there. It's a happy ending, and on Joker's last day, Iwai gives him a gecko pin, symbolizing how he sees him as family now. You help Iwai with his yakuza stuff, he gets threatened by his old friend, you change his heart, another yakuza member kidnaps and threatens Kaoru, where Iwai tells Kaoru the truth and he says he doesn't care because he still love Iwai, and the guy whose heart you changed comes in clutch and saves you by pointing a gun straight at Masa's (bad yakuza man) face. Kaoru has a birthmark that looks similar to a gecko, and Iwai got a gecko tattoo on his neck to make Kaoru feel less bad about it, and says it's the family symbol. Joker meets his son Kaoru, although Iwai reveals that he adopted Kaoru after a woman dropped him off in front of Iwai, but Iwai had been telling Kaoru his whole life that he was a family friend who adopted him afye his parents died in a car crash. Initially, Iwai comes off as cold and uncaring, not to mention you find out he is an ex-yakuza member, and still speaks with them every now and then. It starts with the player accepting a part time job with him in hopes of getting good deals with his guns. Unlike some of the other Confidants, Iwai is a character that the player is required to meet when they sell him Kamoshida's medal, although this doesn't begin his social link.
Iwai is the one who sells your weapons, and buys all the crap that you picked in the Metaverse because. It's a great scene, and one that I really wish wasn't cut.Īnyways, this rant is about Munehisa Iwai, the Hanged Man Confidant, and the owner of Untouchable Airsoft. In a cut piece of content, there was a scene where Sae and Sojiro manage to gather all the adult confidants (Iwai, Kawakami, Ohya, Yoshida, Takemi, and Chihaya) and they have a celebration about Joker, and share some actually funny jokes. I feel like the adult confidants were interesting in the sense that the game always goes on about "shitty adults", so seeing actual good adults is refreshing. And even then, of the non-phantom thief confidants, I found Hifumi's and Mishima's to be less interesting than the adults (besides Ohya) and Shinya. With that said, I found it ironic that despite being the same age as the Phantom Thieves, I was less interested in their confidants than I was with the others. The only one I can say I didn't care for was Ohya, and that seems to be a popular opinion, so I guess that's fine. I think as a whole, Persona 5s confidants we're pretty solid.
